Top 5 Indispensable Technologies of Modern Workspaces
COVID-19 has caused major challenges in the workplace. Many companies have been able to act swiftly to mitigate these challenges by deploying the appropriate technologies that will improve the quality of work, safeguard employees and migrate to a new way of working.

For many companies, the coronavirus has caused the most significant disruption in the workplace. It will have a huge impact on everyone as employees, as a workforce and as an industry. Across industries, a new normal is emerging and many leaders will use the lessons from remote work experiment to transform the workplace. Here are the top five indispensable technologies of modern workspaces:

1. Request Management Systems

Request Management systems are workflow automation tools for handling tasks required for a variety of different internal or external requests. A request management system brings order to a chaotic environment and streamlines requests regardless of where the requests are coming from. As companies adjust to the Post-COVID era, technologies that are suited to different types of requests from customers, partners or departments within the company are expected to be indispensable in the modern workspace especially if they are easy to use and have customization options.

2. E-learning Technologies

Learning is the central to an organization’s growth. Even as companies are striving to alleviate the economic toll caused by COVID-19, up-skilling and right-skilling are important for innovation. Prior to the recent pandemic, companies have heavily invested in in-person meeting, but e-learning technologies will now be deployed for corporate learning and professional development workshops.

3. Cloud-based Collaboration Tools

As physical meetings reduce, cloud-based collaboration tools will be designed to specifically enhance internal communications. Cloud technology encourages collaboration, making it easy for employees regardless of their locations to connect, promote real-time collaborations and simplify project management by providing chat rooms for small teams. As companies adopt distributed working instead of a centralized headquarters, the need to have tools that simplify communication will be on the rise in modern workplaces.

4. The Internet of Things (IoT)

The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of connecting everyday computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, or employees that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to send and receive data.

Another benefit of the IoT technology is the ability to track employees in a building. This will help in locating colleagues and finding empty workspace. Examples of Internet of Things in the modern workspace includes connected security systems, thermostats, lights in commercial environments, alarm clocks, vending machines and more.

5. Employee-centered Apps

The modern workspace is already seeing the rise in applications that are specific to employees. The primary goal of employee-centered apps is to create a more efficient experience for employees as regards how they work each and every day. For example, there are now mobile applications for internal company intranet sites that allow improved inter- and intra- departmental communication. In addition, payroll programs, like Wave, are creating employee-centered applications that allow users to manage their banking information and access their tax forms in one place.
